The prevalence of plastics in our society is one of the biggest problems this world faces, and we intend to do everything within our power to
help raise awareness of it.
Plastics do not fully biodegrade in the environment - they photodegrade to the molecular level, which is actually far worse than if these fast food lids and milk jugs had remained intact. Free-floating molecules of plastic are far more dangerous and much harder to get rid of than the plastic trash items that they came from. There are many places in the ocean where, if you scoop up a cupful of water and analyze it, you will find a toxic amount of plastic molecules. We are literally turning the ocean into liquid plastic. These plastic molecules are creating vast "dead zones" in the ocean where no life can survive. And on land, the molecules of plastic given off from rotting trash gradually make soil unusable. Residues of the plastic turn up inside plants grown in this soil, and ultimately even end up trapped inside our own bodies as well. Additionally, outgassing from household plastic materials can cause a variety of health problems that are just now beginning to be understood. So-called safer plastics such as those made from genetically engineered corn are neither safer nor "greener" than any other plastics, in our estimation.
